Conformance Standards

UIDesigner Audit tests against the globally recognized WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard. Conformance with these criteria is typically required to satisfy legal compliance requirements under the US Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508, and the European Accessibility Act (EAA).

Key Evaluated Criteria

1. Contrast (Minimum) — SC 1.4.3

  • Requirement: Visual presentation of text and images of text must maintain a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, except for large text (at least 18pt or 14pt bold), which requires at least 3:1.
  • Detection: Evaluates computed foreground colors against background colors, including semi-transparent overlays and CSS gradient fills.

2. Non-Text Contrast — SC 1.4.11

  • Requirement: Visual presentation of UI components (buttons, input borders) and graphical objects must maintain a 3:1 contrast ratio against adjacent backgrounds.

3. Non-Text Content (Alt Text) — SC 1.1.1

  • Requirement: All non-text content (, , ) presented to users must have a text alternative that serves the equivalent purpose. Decorative graphics must be marked with aria-hidden="true" or empty alt="".

4. Info and Relationships — SC 1.3.1

  • Requirement: Information, structure, and relationships conveyed through presentation can be programmatically determined or are available in text (e.g., proper heading nesting, table headers, list markup).

5. Target Size (Minimum) — SC 2.5.8

  • Requirement: The size of the target for pointer inputs is at least 24 × 24 CSS pixels, or sufficient spacing is provided around small targets.

6. Keyboard Accessible — SC 2.1.1

  • Requirement: All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes.
